هذا البوست ملهم من هذه المقالة الرائعة وهذا البوست العظيم .. فقد أثار الموضوع في دول العالم المتحضر حوارات وخلافات عميقة على كافة المستويات الفلسفية والسياسية والاجتماعية. وعلى عكس ما يعتقد الكثيرون الخلاف أخلاقي وليس بالضرورة ديني. ويهمني معرفة رأيكم

بداية لنعرف الموضوع .. وهو الأبحاث باستخدام الخلايا "الجذعية" أو "الجذرية" وهي الخلايا الأساسية التي يتكون منها مختلف أنواع الخلايا. وتستخدم لتعويض الأنسجةالتالفة أو الميتة في أغلب أعضاء الجسم. وعادة ما تكون في دم الحبل السري ولكنها في الأغلب تؤخد من مصدرين رئيسيين : الخلايا الجنينية وخلايا الانسان البالغ بعد المعالجة. ولكل من هذين النوعين سلبيات وايجابيات على المستوى العملي والعلمي

عمليا فان استخدام الخلايا الجنينية أرخص وعلميا مجالات التطبيقات أكبر وأوسع ولكن هي أساس الخلاف العالمي حول أخلاقية هذا النوع من الأبحاث. فهي تأتي من الخلايا الأولية الناتجة من تلقيح البويضة بالحيوان المنوي أي الخلايا الأولى من تكوين الجنين. واذا افترضنا أن الحياة تبدأ بالتلقيح فاننا عمليا نقتل الأجنة البشرية من أجل البحث العلمي. الحجج الأخرى أن الفوائد تفوق الأضرار وأخرى أن التلقيح لا يعني الحياة فالبيضة الملقحة لا تتحول الى انسان الا باكتمال أعضاء الجسم البشري. وهي حجج يمكن الاتفاق والاختلاف معها حسب موقعك الأخلاقي والديني والفلسفي. ولكن من المهم ان نعرف ان الأعداد الطلوبة للبحث لا يمكن توفيرها من عيادات الخصوبة فقط. بل يجب "زراعة" الأجنة للحصول على الكميات المطلوبة للبحث ، وزراعة الأجنة كانت غير مدعومة ماليا من قبل معظم الحكومات الغربية الى أن رفع الحظر عنها الرئيس أوباما مؤخرا

في فترة حظر زراعة الأجنة طور العلماء بديل آخر وهي الخلايا الجنينية وحيدة الأب والتي هي نتاج عملية استساخ للخلايا الجنسية (دمج خليتان من نفس الانسان) وهي حتى يومنا هذا ليست البديل الأفضل عمليا لقصر عمر هذه الخلايا كما أنها تحمل نفس الخلاف الأخلاقي الذي يرتبط بالاستنساخ

البحوث العلمية المبنية على رزاعة وحصد الخلايا الجنينة هي الأكثر عملية من ناحية علمية ومالية كما أنها تقدم أملا كبيرا وسريعا بالقضاء على الكثير من الأمراض المستعصية كالسكري والالزهايمر والشلل الرباعي وغيرها الكثير .. فلا خلاف حول فائدتها .. البدائل الأخرى غير عملية لارتفاع ثمنها وأوجه قصورمخبرية أخرى أو انها لا توفر نفس المزايا العلمية التي توفرها الخلايا الجنينية

السؤال: هل زراعة الأجنة للبحث العلمي مقبول أخلاقيا لك؟ لماذا؟ هل تعتبر البيضة المخصبة أو الخلايا الجنينة الجذعية انسانا؟

الشباب عندهم خوش موضوع - يرجى الزيارة

منذ عامين كتبت هذا البوست حول المشاعر وعلاقتها ببعض. وأجدني أعود هذه الأيام لهذه الزهرة لأتفهم درجة الكراهية والحقد الذي نحمله تجاه الآخر

الأسلاميون يكرهون الليبراليين والمسلمون يكرهون "النصارى" والحضر يكرهون البدو والسنة يكرهون الشيعة والنساء يكرهن الرجال والأبناء يكرهون الآباء والمشاعر في معظم الأحيان متبادلة. والكره شعور قوي لا بد من الاعتراف به ومعالجة أسبابه والا فانه يستهلك حامله ويقضي على طاقاته وباستمراره يتحول لعرض جسدي كمشاكل الوزن والنوم وأعراض أخرى كالصداع وآلام المفاصل وعلامات الشيخوخة المبكرة وغيرها الكثير

والكراهية شعور مركب وعادة ما يكون غطاء لمشاعر أخرى كالخوف أو الحسد أو الحزن أو الغضب. وهو في كثير من الأحيان شعور دفاعي لحماية من ملاحظة مشاكل أكبر كضعف احترام الذات أو عدم الثقة بالنفس أو الحساسية المفرطة. وقد ينتج هذا الشعور عن التنشأة وكنتاج التربية والتعليم وتعزيز قيم الأسرة والمجتمع

والكره شعور سهل على الانسان لأنه لا يتطلب أي مجهود عقلي. في حين أن الحب والتعاطف والتسامح يتطلب الكثير من التفكير ومراجعة الذات والسيطرة على الانفعالات وايجاد العذر للآخر ومحاولة تفهم وجهة نظره ومغفرة خطأه وتحمل عيوبه .. ومعظمنا لا يود بذل هذا المجهود

سؤال: من تكره؟ وما في رأيك المشاعر الحقيقية وراء هذا الحقد؟

من أهم أسباب قلة نشاطي التدويني هو الطاقة السلبية التي تنضح بها أغلب المدونات، حتى أصبح التحلطم والانتقاد والنميمة من معالم عالم التدوين ومجال التنافس بين المدونين. وهذه الطاقة مكلفة وتسبب الاكتئاب في حال التعرض لها بشكل مستمر. لذا آثرت الابتعاد والتركيز في عمل ايجابي ومفيد

و الانتقاد قد يكون مفيدا اذا كان بنية صافية وقدم بديلا عمليا يشكل فعلا بديلا أفضل. والتحلطم والفضفضة قد تكون ايجابية أحيانا اذا ساعدت المرء على التخلص من متاعبه والتركيز في حياته وعمله

أما الانتقاد والتذمر المستمر والسلبي فهو مرضي بشكل عام وان اختلفت جذوره ودوافعه. وهو ليس ضار بهدف النقد فقط بل بمصدره وقارئه أيضا وربما بشكل أكبر. لأن الطاقة السلبية في النهاية تمتص كل ما هو ايجابي وتسحب طاقة من يحاول أن يرى النصف الممتلئ من الكأس

ودوافع هذا التوجه قد تكون واعية أو غير واعية. والدوافع الواعية بعضها عن حسن نية وكثر منها عن سوء. فكثير من المدونات (وبالذات المستجدة منها على الساحة) لها أجندة واضحة وتعمل عن قصد وبتخطيط دقيق لضرب الناس ببعض وتشتيت طاقات الشباب وصب الزيت على النار. ولا أستغرب ان اتضح ارتباط بعضها بأمن الدولة أو تيارات متضررة من مساحة الحرية التي تتمتع بها المدونات

البعض يتحلطم بسبب الاكتئاب وقلة الحيلة. وأشعر بالأسى الشديد لهؤلاء لأنني على ثقة بحسن نواياهم. ولكن أن يصل شاب في مقتبل العمر لهذه المرحلة من الاحباط والشلل فهذا أمر غير طبيعي ولا يجب أن يستمر لمدة طويلة. فهنالك وسيلة طالما وجدت العزيمة. والشباب في كل مجتمعات العالم وعبر التاريخ هم محرك التغيير. فهم القادرين على الابتكار والتفكير خارج الأطر النمطية لتغيير الأوضاع وتصويب الخطأ. والتذمر أسلوب ضار وخال من الابتكار وصالح فقط للعواجيز مثلي

أما على مستوى اللاوعي فالنقد والسلبية وسائل دفاع بدائية عن ذات هشة وضعيفة. فالهجوم والنقد والهدم وسيلة لبعد الأنظار عن الخواء والفشل الشخصي. كما أن دراسة أو حتى خلق أخطاء الآخر تعويض عن الفشل في التغيير أو خلق البديل. وهؤلاء بالعادة أناس متوحشون وغير قادرين على بناء علاقات متينة لأنهم فاشلين في بناء علاقات مع أنفسهم

أنا أستيقظ من النوم كل يوم وأتخذ قرارا واعيا بالتركيز على النصف الممتلئ من الكأس – وأحيانا حتى الربع! وان لم أجده جعلت ذلك دافعا لمزيد من العمل والابتكار. لأنه بدون الأمل بالتغيير تصبح الحياة فيلم رعب ممل .. وأنا أختار أن لا أعيش مثل هذا الفيلم. فما خيارك؟

مثال حي: انظر الخبر .. ثم اقرأ التعليقات تحته. لم يعقد المؤتمر والصحفي ولا نعرف أي شيء عن المجموعة ولكن النقد والتذمر جاهز .. هل هذا وضع طبيعي!؟

رأى أحدهم حمار (مكرم السامع والقارئ) هزيلا ومرهقا يقف أمام شدتين من التبن وعلى وجهه علامات الضياع والارتباك. فاقترب منه وسأله: ما بك يا حمار؟ فقال: أكاد أموت من التعب والجوع ولا أعرف ما آكل

فقال الرجل: كيف تجوع وأنت تقف أمام شدتين كبيرتين من التبن النضر؟ لماذا لا تأكل هذا! .. فتنهد الحمار وقال: هنا مشكلتي يا سيدي. أطمح أن لا أكون حمارا بعد الآن وأن تكون أعمالي وتصرفاتي وأقوالي عاقلة: ذكية ومنطقية

فقال له الرجل باستغراب: وأين المشكلة؟ كن عاقلا وكل شيء من التبن قبل أن تموت من الجوع! فرد الحمار العاقل: هنا مربط الفرس .. اين أبدأ الأكل؟ أي شدة من التبن أولا؟ انظر لهما كلاهما بنفس الحجم وبنفس النضارة وبنفس البعد عني! حتى أختار احداهما ككائن عاقل فلابد من منطق وراء اختياري. اليس ذلك هو العقل؟

هممم .. فكر الرجل وفكر .. ويبدو أن كلام الحمار منطقيا .. لذا فهو بحاجة لمساعدتكم: هل كل تصرفات الانسان العاقل والذكي منطقية؟ هل يجب أن يكون هنالك أسباب منطقية لكل تصرفاتنا لنكون عقلانيين؟

الفزورة الثانية: قررت جميلة التخلص من زوجها والتمتع بثروته. فوضعت له السم في الأكل ومات. صديقتها حسناء قامت بنفس العمل ولكن زوجها لم يمت لوصول الاسعاف له بالوقت المناسب. فأيهما أكثر خطأ؟ علما بأن جزاء الأولى القانوني هو الاعدام في حين تحصل حسناء على سجن لمدة عشرين سنة للشروع في القتل. حسناء تحصل على افضلية قانونية بسبب الصدفة البحتة (قرب الاسعاف) فهل ذلك يغير من درجة مسؤوليتها الأخلاقية؟

هل نحن مسؤولون أخلاقيا فقط عن الأشياء ضمن نطاق سيطرتنا ؟ ولماذا؟

قبل أن تجيب فكر في المثال التالي: أحمد رجل مستقيم من اسرة كبيرة وفقيرة. توفى والده فجأة ووجد نفسه مسؤولا عن اعالة الأسرة بأكملها وهو لا يملك شهادة أو حرفة يعمل بها. الوظائف الوحيدة المتوفرة لأمثاله هي في الحرس الجمهوري لدكتاتور مجرم. سيضطر (لظروف خارجه عن اردته) العمل ضمن نظام ظالم يقتل الناس ويعذبهم. فهل يخليه ذلك من المسؤولية الأخلاقية؟

المسؤولية الأخلاقية والمسؤولية القانوينة (أو العقاب) قضيتان مستقلتان. فالعقوبة عادة تعتمد على العواقب أو النتائج في حين أن المسؤولية الأخلاقية تعتمد على النية والوعي بالسلوك. والاختلاف أو الصعوبة هي في تحديد درجة الوعي. فالتخلف العقلي أو صغر العمر عوامل واضحة .. العوامل الأقل وضوحا هي الضغوط النفسية والفسيولجية وأثرها على الوعي والسلوك

وانت بطريقك لتطلعهم على الأخبار السيئة تصادف خالد موظف الاستقبال والذي يتمتع بصحة ولياقة عالية .. فتأتيك فكرة جهنمية .. ماذا لو قتلت خالد واستخدمت أعضاءه لانقاذ الأربعة؟

الخمسة متساوون بمستوى المعيشة والحالة والدور الاجتماعي. لذا فان خسر العالم خالد الا انه سيكسب أربعة بدلا عنه. كما أن خالد لن يموت بل ستبقى أجزاء منه خالده في أبدان المرضى الأربعة. سيكون خالد كالجندي الذي يموت لينقذ الآخرين

فما المشكلة الأخلاقية في هذا الحل؟ لما لا؟

الحلال والحرام وغير القانوني ليست قواطع ولا اجابات أخلاقية .. لابد من الاجابة بالمنطق

قرأت هذا الكتاب مؤخرا على أمل أن أفهم السبب وراء غياب المنطق في الكثير من القرارات والنقاشات في بلدنا العزيز .. ففي كثير من الأحيان يبدو النقاش وكأنه حوار طرشان رغم وجود رغبة صادقة في التفاهم. ولا أستثني نفسي من هذه المشكلة. فكثيرا ما أتخذ قرارات أكتشف لاحقا انها غير صحيحة رغم اعتقادي وقتها بأنني درست الموضوع بشكل دقيق وموضوعي

الكتاب بسيط وشيق ومليء بالأمثلة التاريخية في السياسة والاجتماع وحتى في المجالات الأكاديمية البحتة للأخطاء الشائعة الستة في التفكير كما يعددهاالكاتب سأضعها هنا باختصار وأطلب رأيكم فيما اذا كانت تفسر أزمة العقلية الكويتية

أولا: نحن نفضل القصص والأمثلة الشخصية على الاحصائيات والأرقام وذلك لأننا حيوانات اجتماعية تفضل القصص خصوصا من وكالة يقولون

ثانيا: نحن نبحث عن المعلومة التي تؤكد اعتقاداتنا لا التي تناقضها أو توازنها

ثالثا: قلما نقدر دور الصدفة في تحديد مسار الأمور مما يجعلنا نبني نظريات مطولة لتفسير ما قد يكون محض صدفة لرغبتنا أن نؤمن بأن كل شيء يحدث لسبب

رابعا: نثق ثقة عمياء بحواسنا وانطباعاتنا رغم ان حواسنا تخوننا كثيرا

خامسا: نسعى لتبسيط الأمور أكثر من اللازم

سادسا: نثق بذكرياتنا رغم انها متغيرة وسهلة التأثر بالكثير من العوامل

MAMMA MIA!

I had many issues lined up for writing .. but my kids gave me a complete mood change by taking me to this movie:

For those of you who saw Mamma Mia the play, the movie is everything the play is with MORE fun and better soundtrack ! Most importantly, the movie has the advantage of being shot at the Greek Islands .. Hypnotic and romantic !

The movie is starring the one and only Meryl Streep ! She's as funny and as beautiful as she's ever been.

The movie and fun and refreshing despite the stupid censorship scissors!

رقابة غير مباشرة

تعرضت بعض المدونات الجديدة لحملة منع بسبب شكاوى عليها أنها "مدونة غير مرغوب بها" ، ومنها مدونة عتاوية الفريج ومدونة زرادشت. وأنا لدي شعور أن القائمة كانت أطول ولكن الشكوى لم تنفع مع المدونات القديمة ذات المناعة :) وحتى يستعيد الزميل زرادشت مدونته استضفته هنا ليتواصل ايمانا بحرية الرأي والتعبير

لم أعتقد ولم يأتي في بالي يوم من الأيام أن أفتح مدونتي لأجدها مقفله من قبل الموقع نفسه؟؟
وعند الأستفسار وجدت للأسف أنه الموقع يشك بأنه المدونه قد تكون عباره عن مدونه وهميه بمعنى أخر سبام!؟؟؟

وأقولها بكل صراحه في بدايه الأمر أختلطت علي الأمور فالمدونه مازالت جديده ولم يتعدى عليها الشهر؟؟

لكن -آه من لكن - عند المراسله علمت أن هناك من لم يعجبه توجه المدونه لسبب هو يعلمه وأنا أعلمه

هذا السبب أن من أشتكى علي لا يؤمن بحريه الحوار ولا يريد لأحد أن ينتقد الثوابت التي يتمسك بها لأنه يعتبرها من أساس الدين

هذا الشخص هاله بروز المدونات التي تنتقد سلوك أكثر من مليار مسلم فقال في قراره نفسه نبتدئ بالجديد ثم نذهب للقديم
هذا الشخص حاول أن يسب فكانت عيني لا تقرأ ما يكتب من سب وكنت أرد عليه بالحجه لكن حجتي أعيت نفسيته وتعب هذا الشخص بكيفيه النيل من مدونتي

هذا الشخص لم يتورع للحظه واحده أن يستعمل الكذب عندما راسل الموقع الرئيسي بأن المدنه عباره عن مدونه ألكترونيه

نعم هذا الشخص كذاب أشر

كم تمنيت و سأفرح لو تم النقاش من خلال المدونه على ما أطرحه من أفكار وليعارض من يعارض لأني أنسان أؤمن بأن هناك حريه للرأي .. لكن هذا الشخص لايريد ولا يؤمن بحريه الرأي

هذا الشخص الكاذب الأشر أعتقد وفرح عندما تم أقفال المدونه ولا أستبعد أنه رقص طربآ لأنتصار محدود ، وكان يعتقد بهذه الفعله بأنه سيكسرني ويجعلني أفقد الأعصاب.. لكن أقول لهذا الشخص : بالأمس أقفلت مدونتي وها أنا اليوم أنشر مره أخرى

أذا كنت تعتقد بأقفالك للمدونه قد حققت أنتصار فأنا على أستعداد لفتح مدونه ثانيه وثالثه ورابعه وهلم جرآ

أتدري لماذا اتحداك ؟؟
لأني متوافق مع نفسي وأحترم ما أؤمن فيه ولا أستعمل الكذب لتحقيق غاياتي على عكسك أنت

بالنهايه أرجو مع أنه الرجاء مع أمثالكم بعيد المنال ... ان تكون أستوعب ما قلته لأن لن يثنيني عن الكتابه ألا أمر واحد وهو وعد قطعته على نفسي عندما فتحت المدونه وقلت: لن أقف عن الكتابه ألا في حاله واحده عندما أنتقل لدنيا غير دنياكم

وبالنهايه أشكر مدونه أم العيال لفتحها المجال لي للتعبير عن رأيي المتواضع وأشكر قرائي وأن كانوا قله بالأستفسار بقراره أنفسهم عن سبب أقفال المدونه

لكن أقول أني راجع يدآ بيد معكم لفضح أساليب التيار الظلامي

المتتبع لحركة التاريخ السياسي من اتجاهات شيوعية ورأسمالية، لاشك أنه سيلحظ التأثر العربي بالفكر الشيوعي والذي امتد في بدايات القرن الماضي على العالم بشكل عام والعرب بشكل خاص، وقد تلازم الفكر الشيوعي مع فكرة إنكار الدين والإلحاد (طبعا لم يكن هنالك الحاد قبل الشيوعية ولا حتى قبل الاسلام) حيث أصبح هذا النوع من التفكير فرعاً من فروع الشيوعية إلى أن انفصل وأصبح فكرا بذاته مرتبطا بفكرة العلمانية الشمولية والتي عرّفها عبدالوهاب المسيري رحمه الله بأنها (رؤية شاملة للكون بكل مستوياته ومجالاته، لا تفصل الدين عن الدولة وعن بعض جوانب الحياة العامة وحسب، وإنما تفصل كل القيم الإنسانية والأخلاقية والدينية عن كل جوانب الحياة العامة في بادئ الأمر، ثم عن كل جوانب الحياة الخاصة في نهايته، إلى أن يتم نزع القداسة تماماً عن العالم). وهو طبعا - طيب الله ثراه - مرجع من مراجع العلمانية فلا يعتد بأي من التعاريف الأخرى والعياذ بالله

لا شك أن ما حصل في القرن العشرين كان نتيجة الزخم الإعلامي للدعم الشيوعي العالمي وكيفية السيطرة على العالم ونتيجة لذلك ظهر لدينا عرب ينشرون إلحادهم علانية أمثال إسماعيل أدهم الدكتور الذي تخرج من موسكو وأعلن وألف كتيبا((لماذا أنا ملحد؟)) وأخيرا وُجد منتحرا في الإسكندرية طالبا بورقة وضعها في جيبه بعدم دفنه مع المسلمين.
شخص آخر وهو عبدالله القصيمي المفكر السعودي الذي انتقل من أقصى اليمين إلى أقصى الشمال والأسباب مجهولة فمن داعية ديني ومدافع عن الإسلام إلى مهاجم ومنتقد للدين بكل أركانه ولو أنني سمعت أنه قبل مماته قد عاد عن ذلك.

فكرة الإلحاد مبنية على أن عدم فكرة تقبل الإنسان للمجهول وعدم اقتناعه بأن هناك حياة أخرى، أبدية، لذلك استسلم لحواسه والتي يستند عليها بالمنطق الحسابي وأبعد كل ما هو ممكن من روحاني وإيماني لذلك أصبح الاقتناع فقط في ما تملكه اليد من علم ونظريات واكتشافات.

قد يرجع البعض السبب لظهور الإلحاد عند المسلمين وتركهم لدينهم بأنه ردة فعل لما رأوه من المسلمين والطريقة التي يتم التعامل فيها مع أي شخص يريد أن يطرح فكره ولكن هناك أسباب أخرى، بعضها قد يكون بسبب الاحتكاك بحضارة أخرى دون وجود أساس فكري، أو غياب دور الأسرة التوعوي، وأخيرا ظهور أسر كاملة تنتهج هذا الفكر نتيجة جيل سابق.

وفي الكويت هناك بوادر لهذا التفكير فهناك من يقذف بأفكار الإلحاد علانية ومنهم من يقذفها مبطنة ولن أتكلم عن الفئة الاخرى ولكن من يتحدث علانية بالإلحاد لا يتحدث عنه فكرا ولا موضوعا ولكن يتحدث عنه من خلال الشتائم القذرة للاسلام والاستهزاء بالخالق والاستهزاء بالرسول عليه الصلاة السلام ناهيك عن السب والكلام البذيء الذي لا يقال ولا يكتب. هل لأن السب والشتم الطفولي هدف أسهل وممكن الرد عليه؟

هناك مدونات كويتية مع كل أسف بدأت تنهج هذا النهج وتتكلم بكل وقاحة لأنها تعرف جيدا أنها وراء ستار ولا يمكن معرفه الشخصية الكاتبة، ولكن هذا الكلام مناف لكل القوانين التي يلتزم فيها الإعلام الكويتي وأنا أعلم أن المواقع الالكترونية لا يوجد عليها قوانين لازمة ولكن يجب أن يكون هناك حل وتحرك من أي جهة مسؤولة لإيقاف هذه المهازل

حرية الرأي كما كفلها الدستور مطلوبة ونشجع التحاور البناء الجاد العقلاني ونطالب بمزيد من الحريات دوما فيما يطور الصالح العام ولكن الحرية وضعت لها ضوابط قانونية تنظمها وتأطرها لكي تكون بالشكل الذي يتناسب مع المجتمع، وشغل بعض المدونات الشاغل هو الاستهزاء والسب للذات الإلهية وللرسول والقول علانية ( أنا ملحد) الزبدة؟ ان سرا أحسن؟ فهؤلاء من لم يحترموا أي خط من خطوط الحرية الشخصية لغيرهم كيف؟ ولماذا؟ يجب تضييق الخناق عليهم وإيقافهم والبحث عنهم ومعاقبتهم أيضا حرية التعبير بالمفهوم الكويتي ... ودمتم

منذ عام وعدت نفسي ووعدتكم بالابتعاد عن التحلطم والسلبية .. وحتى الآن أنا عند وعدي :) .. وعليه فأنا أتعمد أتحاشى موضوع الانتخابات جتى يصبح عندي شيء ايجابي أشاركم فيه .. حتى ذلك الحين عندي سؤالين لحضراتكم

السؤال الأول: هل يمكن هذه الأيام أن يحب أحد لهذه الدرجة؟ لماذا؟ - ملاحظة حب المرهقين لا يدخل بالحسبة

عفوا على المزاج الذي لا يتناسب مع الأحداث .. ولكن عندي سؤال ثاني

السؤال الثاني: بعد 40 سنة من الآن من هو المطرب أو المطربة التي سيستمع لها أبنائي بنفس المزاج والسلطنة لأم كلثوم؟ أن كانت أم كلثوم فلماذا وبعد أكثر من قرن لم/لن يتنج العالم العربي أساطير مثل أم كلثوم وعبدالحليم ؟

منذ نهاية السبعينات ونحن نقع تحت قبضة القوى المتأسلمة. ومنذ ذلك اليوم إلى يومنا هذا وحرياتنا الشخصية والسياسية والاجتماعية تنقرض. فشوهوا الفن ومنعوا الاحتفالات وراقبوا الأدب ومنعوا الاختلاط وقتلوا الفرح. سيطروا على الكل بإرهاب فكري وحشي تحولت معه الديمقراطية إلى كلمة بذيئة والعلمانية إلى كفر والتعليم المشترك إلى دعوة للفسق والفجور.فحالنا الآن لا يختلف عن أوروبا في العصور الوسطى حيث أدارت الكنيسة الدولة حتى أوصلت أوروبا لأسود حقبها الحضارية

وماذا جنينا من تلك السيطرة المطبقة على المجتمع وعلى أجهزة الدولة؟ فرغم الشكليات "الإسلامية" كتزايد الحجابات واللحى واللجان الخيرية نرى ترديا في الأخلاق والأخلاقيات وتفشي للفساد والرشوة والمحاباة ، وتزايد الأمراض الاجتماعية كالتعصب والعنصرية والإدمان والطلاق وجنح الأحداث ، وتخرج من شبابنا قادة الارهاب والعنف في العالم. فلا خيرهم ولا كفاية شرهم

في عيد الشكر اجتاحت أحد المدن الأميركية حركة غريبة بدأت في أحد مقاهي ستاربكس وانتهت بكافة المحال والمطاعم والمكاتب. لسبب ما بدأ الكل بالقيام بعمل جميل لآخر غريب تماما و دون سبب أو مقابل. إذ قام البعض بدفع فاتورة من يقف خلفهم في طابور الكاشير. والبعض قام بتقديم بطاقات الخصومات أو طوابع الطعام لأول شخص يراه في المركز التجاري. آخرون قاموا بترك موقف السيارة لسائق السيارة التي بخلفهم. و ارتفع في ذلك اليوم التبرع للجهات الخيرية بنسبة أكبر من العام الماضي. وهكذا انتشرت على عكس العادة حركة "عمل خير" لم يسبق لها مثيل ، وأصبح الجو العام أكثر ايجابية وعلت الوجوه ابتسامات عفوية ومعبرة

انتشرت الظاهرة بشكل ملحوظ مما دعا شبكة التلفزيون أن تبحث مصدر الحركة. و بعد البحث والتقصي اكتشفت الشبكة أن مصدر التغيير شخص واحد خلق هذه الموجة بدون قصد. هذا الشخص – معلم يوجا – توجه صباحا لشباك طلب ستاربكس بسيارته. وأثناء تقديم طلبه أزعجه الشخص خلفه بإطلاق بوق السيارة والإشارات اليدوية البذيئة والصراخ. يقول معلم اليوجا : أحسست بأن هذا الشخص منزعجا جدا ويحمل الكثير من الطاقة السلبية، فأردت أن أغير مسار هذه الطاقة وأحاول تغيير مزاجه

لذا قام بدفع ثمن قهوة هذا الرجل المزعج مقدما. تقول بائعة ستاربكس أن الرجل المزعج تعجب كثيرا من حركة هذا المعلم وأصر أن يدفع ثمن الطلب اللاحق .. وهكذا بدأت الحركة التي انتشرت في المدينة كلها بأقل من 12 ساعة

معلم اليوجا كان أمام عدة خيارات ، كان بإمكانه الصراخ على الشخص المزعج أو حتى يضربه لعدم احترامه لدوره. أو كان بإمكانه أن يتجاهله تماما ويأخذ نفسا عميقا ويأخذ قهوته ويرحل ، وهنالك الخيار غير المألوف أن يستوعب السلبية ويحولها لشيء ايجابي. فاختار الصعب وغير المألوف فكانت النتيجة خارج نطاق تصور الجميع

لعام 2008 سأنتهز الفرص لتحويل السلبي لايجابي .. فهل من مشارك؟

I had promised myself never to enter Saudi Arabia for all the obvious and non-obvious reasons. But against my best efforts I ended up with a long assignment in Jeddah. So it was a challenge for me on a personal level to work further outside my comfort zone.

I bought my “Islamic” Abaya and my headscarves. I carefully selected among my conservative wardrobe the longest and the darkest. I asked my host all the stupid questions I had in mind. I check with everybody who has an experience traveling to KSA. Everybody told me “Jeddah ‘3air” (translation - Jeddah is different) but I refused to believe. My bias overrode all the information I was given.

Well, I have to admit that I was wrong. I had the best of times and I learned in a week enough for a lifetime. Jeddah is different; fun and pleasant, open and modern and most importantly very familiar. It is not very different that Kuwait at all if not better in many ways.

On my last day there I had coffee with a group of young men and women in an open café at the beach. They were all talking openly and respectfully about their concerns and issues. And though they were understandable conscious of political discussions, their social and economical concerns where no different than ours.

They talked about the loss of identity- the blind copying of everything Western- homosexuality, divorce, unemployment, plastic surgeries, power of Islamic extremists, love , marriage, cost of living, parenting challenges ,,, etc.

I always believed that I am free of any form of prejudice and biases. But this experience has shown me how easy it is to fall into the stereotypes and narrow-mindedness despite your best efforts.

Unless you force yourself to get out of your comfort zone and retest your assumptions and notions you will become the bigot you see in others.

My Question: when was the last time you tested your assumptions?

اعتذر مقدما لعدم إدراجي لمراجع للمعلومات المذكورة أدناه. إذ لم يحالفني الحظ إيجاد أي منها على الانترنت . لذا يرجى اعتبار التالي مجرد تساؤلات وليس أطروحة أكاديمية. كما إنني لا أملك إجابات مقنعة للأسئلة .. فالباب مفتوح للنقاش و"الفتوى" في حدود احترام الآخر وكافة المعتقدات والآراء

عند تقلد السلطة أنشأ خاتمي " مركز حوار الحضارات" والذي تبنى عدة مبادرات بغرض تحفيز الحوار والتقارب بين الشعوب والثقافات والحضارات. وأحد تلك المبادرات تشجيع محاولات تطبيق الفلسفات الغربية في تفهم أو إعادة قراءة القرآن والنصوص القدسية الإسلامية. ونتج عن ذلك العديد من الدراسات والحوارات الفلسفية تحت عنوان " التفسير الرمزي للنصوص القرآنية" - الترجمة قد لا تكون دقيقة

تطورت الدراسات على أيد علماء مسلمين وبمباركة الحكومة الإيرانية آنذاك لمناقشة احتمالات التفسيرات الرمزية للقرآن وهو ليس بالجديد في الفلسفة الإسلامية. فالصوفية وغيرهم ناقشوا منذ قرون مثلا ما إذا كانت "يد الله" تشير إلى يد فعلية أم مجرد تعبير مجازي. ولكن المثير في الجدالات الإيرانية الفرنسية أن وصلت لبحث إمكانية التفسير الرمزي الكلي للقرآن بما في ذلك القصص القرآني مثل قصة آدم وحواء أو نوح وغيرها

المؤسف أن تلك الحوارات توقفت (واختفت من الانترنت) بعد استلام المحافظين مقاليد الحكم

السؤال: ماذا لو كانت قصص القرآن كلها قصص رمزية وليس توثيق مباشر لوقائع تاريخية؟ كيف سيؤثر ذلك على المفاهيم الاسلامية؟ هل سيكون لذلك أي أثر على الحياة اليومية؟ كيف؟

أول سورة نزلت على الرسول هي سورة العلق ثم القلم فالمزمل فالمدثر فالفاتحة .. الخ ، في حين أن آخر سور نزلت هي المائدة فالتوبة فالنصر التي كانت في حجة الوداع. هذا الترتيب الزمني للنزول مختلف تماما عن ترتيب السور في القرآن الذي يبدأ بالفاتحة فالبقرة فآل عمران .. الخ

السؤال: ما هو أساس ترتيب سور القرآن أن لم يكن زمن النزول؟ ومن وضع هذا الترتيب – علما بأن القرآن لم يدون إلا بعد وفاة الرسول. ؟ ولماذا؟

بعض السور خليط من آيات مدنية ومكية. مثال: سورة القلم مكية ولكن آياتها 17: 33 و 48: 50 مدنية. سورة الأنفال مدنية وآياتها 30 :36 مكية. وما تذكره كتب التاريخ أن الوحي كان يهبط على الرسول في فترات متفاوتة حسب الحاجة أو الموقف. ولا يوجد ما يشير إلى أن جبريل قد أعطى الرسول أسماء للسور.

أسئلة كثيرة هنا: من أعطى السور أسماءها؟ كيف عرف الرسول بداية السورة ونهايتها؟ كيف يمكن لنفس السورة أن تهبط في موقعين مختلفين خصوصا قبل الهجرة- مثال سورة القلم

وعشان خاطر ارتفل .. هذا ترتيب السور حسب النزول كما أهداني اياه أحد الباحثين منذ زمن بعيد. اعتذر عن الخطأ ان وجد

I don’t know Fernas, but I totally support his invitation to do something for the orphans in Iraq.

I apologize upfront for the length of this blog, but I wanted to give you the FULL picture ;)

Many parents, like myself, gave up on the Government services and turned to the privately provided services to assure our kids the best education and health services. But the government seems eager to maintain equity in suffering:

(1) Back in late June I received this e-mail as one of the parents of BBS students.

I am a Middle School Vice-Principal at Al-Bayan Bilingual School in Kuwait. I have been employed in Kuwait for 6 years at the same school. One of my primary responsibilities is student discipline. On March 8, 2006, three boys in grade 5 were suspended for fighting. I interviewed the boys, met with my principal and followed normal procedure. There is no stigma here regarding suspension. Students spend the day in the office where they study, are visited by teachers, and are taken to the canteen, etc. It's a normal consequence for fighting; all students are aware of this and the procedure is clearly defined in our Parent Handbook.

In the afternoon of March 8th, I received a phone call from one of the boys' fathers, Mr. Fawaz Khalid Al Marzouq, who is a powerful man in Kuwait. He called to inform me that this situation was "personal," that he is "friends with the emir" and that he planned to "destroy" me. This conversation, which lasted about 9 minutes, was littered with profanities and threats. On March 11, 2006, the parents met with me, my principal and our director, Dr. Brian McCauley, to discuss the suspension. The father requested that if there was an issue involving his child that I would call him immediately. On April 27, 2006, I was requested to write a synopsis of events and to visit the Ministry of Education to answer questions regarding the suspension, describe the room in which the boys spent the school day and provide a copy of our handbook. In June 2006, the father transferred his children to a different private school in Kuwait. Also, we received notification from the Ministry of Education that in-school suspensions were no longer to be applied; instead, parents must be contacted to take their children home.

In February 2007, I learned that a case had been filed against me at the Jabriya Police Department in Kuwait; the charge was "illegal detainment" of his son on March 8, 2006. I answered questions in my director's presence and the Consul from the US Embassy, Mr. Sonny Busa. My lawyer was also present. The police did not suggest that there was any reason for me to be concerned as all of the questions were answered to the apparent satisfaction. On June 13, 2007, I was at the Kuwait International Airport intending to fly to Bahrain. I was stopped at immigration where I was informed that there was a case against me, pending further investigation and that a travel ban had been placed on me. I had not been informed. My lawyer had not been informed. This travel ban was placed upon me 15 months after the boy was suspended. The parent said that he would make this personal and this seems to be what he is intent upon doing.

On Saturday, June 16, 2007, I visited the American Embassy where I met with the Vice Consul, Mr. Jared Caplan, who informed me that he sympathized but could do nothing to lift the travel ban. He suggested that I get an older Kuwaiti man to appeal to Mr. Marzouq. I was told on Wednesday that my file would be transferred to another agency for review so the ban could be lifted. Five working days later, the whereabouts of my file are uncertain. I have been told that my file is in 2 different places; this seems to be a delay tactic. Why? Because I angered an influential Kuwaiti national who is at the top of the social register both locally and at the US Embassy? On I visited the office of a police inspector named Falah Al Otaibi, whose office is in Salmiya. He is a police official who was to evaluate my file and determine if I could leave or not. He stated that he didn't have my file. I visited him on June 17th and 18th. On June 18th, not five minutes after I left his office with my director, the Business Officer of my school and another school representative, I called Mr. Jared Caplan, Vice-Consul at the US Embassy to gain his insight into the situation and to see if any progress had been made to help me leave. He was completely aware of my visit to Mr. Al Otaibi's office and instructed that I not return as it "interfered."

Several Kuwaiti families are aware of my situation but they are not in a position to help or they don't want to get involved. They have ALL said that I should go to my embassy because my embassy can help me. The fact that the embassy can't seems shocking to everyone. Many people also question why this accusation from Mr. Marzouk is placed solely on me - not the school, not the principal, not the director of school. I feel that I am being used as an example because I am a single, American woman and he wants to show others that he can do what he said which is to "destroy" me. Yesterday, June 20, 2007, I received a paper from Mr. Al Otaibi's office in Salmiya which lifted the travel ban. This waiver had been granted by the Kuwait Minister of the Interior. Not long after the Minister released me, he reverted his decision at the request of the Marzouq family or his representatives. I went to the airport last night, only to learn that I couldn't leave. I am in fear for my safety. If the Embassy can't help me, then who can? I contacted the FBI in Riyad, Saudi Arabia yesterday and talked to "Mike" who couldn't give me his last name. He was non-committal but did suggest that he thought the embassy should be able to get me out. Mr. Sonny Busa has informed me that they are "working on it." That seems a little vague and I am not sure if the US Embassy completely realizes the level of danger that I feel that I am in. Why does Mr. Marzouq want me in Kuwait during the summer when no one from my school will be in country to offer their support? To make me feel vulnerable? He is well-connected and his friends are supporting his mission to damage me in any way that he can. What's next? I do not feel safe. I am not safe. I need someone from the US to acknowledge the urgency of my situation and coordinate my release. I committed no crime. I am simply the victim of "wasta" which roughly translates into "influence/pressure" at a high level.

I called some of the school officials and they confirmed the story. Many Kuwaiti politicians and businessmen tried their best to help and they all failed. Finally the matter reached the Prime Minster. He, after a long struggle, managed to get her out of the country. And rumor has it that the Father is suing the government for interfering with the Court procedures!!

Needless to say, she is not coming back and this is the reaction among the expatriates teachers’ society:

(2) Ministry of Education insisted on spreading its success onto the private education by forcing its curriculum on those schools. So, in addition to the typical Arabic, Islamic Studies and Social Studies they have added a special curriculum for Quran. This of course had to be slotted in at the expense of Science and Math hours that gave the good schools international accreditation.

(3) Finally, the MOE became eager to share its management successes too and has announced that within the next 3 years they expect all private school to have 100% Kuwaiti Management!!!

My questions are:

1. Why?!!
2. How can we stop this mess?
3. What do I do with my kids?

The Secret

The basic idea behind The Secret is the Law of ِِAttraction which, based on simple quantum physics, states that our reality is a manifestation of our thoughts which are basically electromagnetic fields or signals and, as with any field, our thoughts attract other fields with compatible polarity. In short, our thoughts (both conscience and unconscious) create our reality.

When your thoughts are negative (e.g. fear, anxiety, depression) you tend to draw more misery to yourself. For example if you worry about illness or debt or unemployment it will come to you! Something like what the Egyptian say (اللي يخاف من الجن يطلع له). Or as someone on the DVD said “what you think about comes about”. Or, on the flip side, “what you resist persists “.

Thus the first advice is to keep feeling good and surrounding yourself with things that give you positive thoughts (كن جميلا ترى الوجود جميلا).

When you emit positive energy you will attract more positive energy from the universe and hence your reality becomes better. Pets, music and children have been shown as effective tools of changing mindset to a more positive frequency.

Two main processes play a role in playing the Law of Attraction to your advantage: Gratitude and Visualization. Gratitude (being grateful for the things you have) works in several ways, but mainly it makes you feel better by focusing on what you have rather than what you miss and hence sets your mind into a more positive mood that will attract more positive reality for you (وأن شكرتم لأزيدنكم).

MRI shows that the body cannot really distinguish between reality and imagination. If you imagine something, your brain and body will react as if it was a reality. Visualizing is the process of living your dream (or wants) because “If you are there in your mind, you will go in your body” and once you are tuned in body and mind on what you want it will materialize.

The creative process of creating your day is the basic principle of any religion: (1) Ask, (2) Believe and (3) Receive, with emphasis on Gratitude and focus on the end result and not the how’s. You can Ask in formal or informal prayers to any God you believe in or simply to the energy of the Universe or yourself. In all cases, it has to be to something you really Believe in. The belief will allow you to Receive because you know you are worth it!

This is a summary of what I got from the DVD, I will leave it to you to question and learn more.

Time for Change !

I’m done with school work and totally burnt out. So I take a 3-day vacation with my kids and leave our home to the sea. I spent 3 days without the laptop, the mobile phone, newspapers, TV or any connection with the “outer world”. I had a DVD and a book that I randomly selected from the pile of books and documentaries I kept for when the time is right!

The kids and I were determined to have a great time and we did. The weather was unbelievably beautiful. I spent the day on the beach reading my book and watching the kids swimming and building their perfect little city in sand. Needless to say, I loved the book! I couldn’t put it down.

As I read, I thought “what a perfect timing!!” Then I watched the DVD, with my kids, and I was certain this was no coincident. It is time for CHANGE!

I will write in details later about both The Secret and The Zahir. But what I wanted to share with you for now is my new revelation. I was wise staying out of politics. I was smart focusing on my home and children and what really matter to ME. It was correct to assume that there is hope in everything and everybody. And I was right seeking what really makes me happy. I was on the right track and lost my way. And now the universe is conspiring to lead me back on track.

Both the book and the DVD address, through different approaches, address how we trap ourselves into patterns of thinking that bring us depression, misfortune, and anxiety. The irony is that we create these patterns in search of HAPPINESS. Once you get the courage to break these patterns, the WORLD changes.

The great thing is that this is not philosophy or psychology; it’s Quantum Physics!

I will be explaining more about that, but for now I just wanted to promise you: No more wining, no more bad news and no more “cursing the dark”. I will either light a candle, or give you a smile or simply shut up!

The Inconvenient Truth

Did you like these nature snapshots? Do you know that within your age span this is all what will be left of nature .. snapshots!

This was my first weekend without school work and tight deadlines. So I began working on many projects that have been shelved for a while. One of them was watching Al Gore Documentary on Global Warming.

I watched the whole documentary with my kids thinking “I know it all” but good educational DVD for my kids. But I was wrong!! I was shocked of how little I knew on the threat and impact of Global Warming.

The documentary is a wake up call reinforced with hard facts and undisputable evidence. It is easy to follow and great for kids and adults the same. Yet, don’t watch it if you are not willing to take action!

The documentary basically connects the dots. Why are we having strange diseases lately like SARS and Avian Flu? Why are old and basically extinct ones like Cholera and Smallpox are coming back aggressively?

Most importantly, what is the reason behind the changes in the climate patterns, the increase of intensity and frequency of floods and tornadoes and the melting North and South Poles? Why certain insects and parasites like mosquitoes, lice and fleas are are increasing? Why are my favorite animals the Polar Bears are drowning in the North Pole?

The answer to that all is Global Warming and our conscious and unconscious contribution to it. Most scary is that the threat is no longer to the “future generations” .. the treat is to us now and here. Earth as we know it, will vanish in less than 50 years!

The good news is that this is reversible and we can do something about it. Watch the documentary and TAKE ACTION !!

I was planning to have a fun post this time to celebrate the end of my school work and gaining my Masters. But my terrorist kids would not allow me ;)

My favorite son A. Temi, brought this article to my attention:

The Redirection: Is the Administration’s new policy benefiting our enemies in the war on terrorism? by Seymour M. Hersh.

I don’t want to spoil your fun reading it, but in short the author provides a detailed and supported account of the otherwise notion that we are being led to a bloody sectarian war to serve the interests of the US, KSA and Iran.

To tease your appetite to read the article, here are few quotes:

“The Saudis and some in the Administration have been arguing that the biggest threat is Iran and the Sunni radicals are the lesser enemies. This is a victory for the Saudi line.”

“The Administration is trying to make a case that Iran is more dangerous and more provocative than the Sunni insurgents to American interests in Iraq, when—if you look at the actual casualty numbers—the punishment inflicted on America by the Sunnis is greater by an order of magnitude,” Leverett said.

“The Saudis still see the world through the days of the Ottoman Empire, when Sunni Muslims ruled the roost and the Shiites were the lowest class,” Frederic Hof, a retired military officer who is an expert on the Middle East, told me

Nasr went on, “The Saudis have considerable financial means, and have deep relations with the Muslim Brotherhood and the Salafis”—Sunni extremists who view Shiites as apostates. “The last time Iran was a threat, the Saudis were able to mobilize the worst kinds of Islamic radicals. Once you get them out of the box, you can’t put them back.”

This time, the U.S. government consultant told me, Bandar and other Saudis have assured the White House that “they will keep a very close eye on the religious fundamentalists. Their message to us was ‘We’ve created this movement, and we can control it.’ It’s not that we don’t want the Salafis to throw bombs; it’s who they throw them at—Hezbollah, Moqtada al-Sadr, Iran, and at the Syrians, if they continue to work with Hezbollah and Iran.”
In quoting Hassan Nasrallah - Partition would leave Israel surrounded by “small tranquil states,” he said. “I can assure you that the Saudi kingdom will also be divided, and the issue will reach to North African states. There will be small ethnic and confessional states,” he said. “In other words, Israel will be the most important and the strongest state in a region that has been partitioned into ethnic and confessional states that are in agreement with each other. This is the new Middle East.”

Robert Baer, a former longtime C.I.A. agent in Lebanon, has been a severe critic of Hezbollah and has warned of its links to Iranian-sponsored terrorism. But now, he told me, “we’ve got Sunni Arabs preparing for cataclysmic conflict, and we will need somebody to protect the Christians in Lebanon. It used to be the French and the United States who would do it, and now it’s going to be Nasrallah and the Shiites.

Most members of the intelligence and diplomatic communities acknowledge Hezbollah’s ongoing ties to Iran. But there is disagreement about the extent to which Nasrallah would put aside Hezbollah’s interests in favor of Iran’s. A former C.I.A. officer who also served in Lebanon called Nasrallah “a Lebanese phenomenon,” adding, “Yes, he’s aided by Iran and Syria, but Hezbollah’s gone beyond that.”

The idea is that it is in the interest of all the big players in the region for us to break down into fighting and independent racial and religious groups. BUT, neither of those players gives a damn about us. The only thing we have to survive is our UNITY. Our unity and consolidation saved us before and will save us in the future.

جماعة السلام الأخضر أجرت مسحا لأسواق الخليج مؤخرا واكتشفت العديد من المنتجات الملوثه بالذرة والقمح والأرز الملوث جينيا في أسواق الكويت والأمارات وقطر. فماذا كان رد فعل الساسة وأولي الأمر؟ الأهم ما هو رد فعل الشعوب؟ الصحافة؟ مجلس الأمة؟ حتى الآن .. لا شيء يذكر

هل وصلنا مرحلة من التخلف وعدم الاكتراث لتسبقنا الصين والهند ودول العالم التي تعيش مجاعة حقيقية في وعيها البيئي؟ هل نحن حيوانات التجارب الجدد للهندسة الوراثية؟ أم هو ببساطة جشع التجار وتواطئ الساسة؟

He might not be the most popular American president in the Middle East, especially after his role in the Camp David Peace Treaty, but right now he deserves our support!

I won’t guess much about his motives, but it is fair to say that Jimmy Carter’s latest book Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid was a definite act of courage. It is an unprecedented act of a former American President to publicly denounce the Israelis and the Israeli government. His book is a detailed account of how the Israeli government is hindering the peace process and encouraging terrorist retaliation. The book also highlights the double standards by which Israel runs its “State” and the Occupied Territory.

Not surprisingly, the Zionist Lobby in the US is going crazy over the book. He is publicly and personally attacked. He’s been labeled as anti-Semitic, terrorist and fundamentalist. Some have clearly accused him of promoting and justifying suicide bombing. For the past few weeks, there has not been a single talk show that did not attack him for the book. He actually revised the second edition of the book to delete a sentence that “might be understood as support for terrorism”.

Though the book has a clear “religious” flavor, it is a complete historical review since the Intifada. It is the first time ever that an ex-president has the guts to tell things from the “other” perspective.

I truly believe that we should show Jimmy Carter some support as opposed to the attack he’s receiving from the other side. Irrespective of his motives or history, it takes real courage to stand against the Israeli lobby at the most unpopular times.

So, I suggest that we promote the book, buy multiple copies and write to Jimmy for support at:

أبغض الحلال

تعد معدلات الطلاق في الكويت من الأعلى عالميا اذ تصل حسب آخر احصاء الى 33% من نسبة الزيجات في السنة مقارنة بمعدل 41% في الولايات المتحدة. وحوالي 70% من حالات الطلاق تقع ضمن السنوات الخمس الأولى من الزواج وأكثر من 80% في أقل من 10 سنوات من الزواج

وتشير الدراسات الرسمية ان من أهم أسباب الطلاق في الكويت: الزواج المبكر ، التوقعات غير العملية من الزوج/الزوجة، ، الاختلاف على القضايا المالية والاجتماعية، تدخل الأهل، ضعف الوازع الديني، تعدد الزوجات .. الخ. وتؤكد الاحصائيات علاقة عكسية بين المؤهلات الدراسية ومعدلات الطلاق. فكلما انخفض المؤهل الدراسي زادت نسبة الطلاق. كما تتمحور الدراسات (ان جاز تسميتها بدراسات) حول الآثار السلبية التفليدية لهذه الظاهرة على المدى القصير والبعيد دون أي تعمق في المتغيرات أو اضافة متغيرات على الاحصائيات للبحث عن علاقات جديدة بين المتغيرات والمسببات. مثال: ما دور التكنولوجيا ؟ الانترنت والأقمار الصناعية؟ تشير الدراسات الصحية لزيادة معدلات العقم وانتشار الأمراض الجنسية. كيف يؤثر ذلك على الحياة الزوجية؟ هل هنالك علاقة؟ ماذا عن الزواج المسيار؟ الشذوذ الجنسي؟ المخدرات؟ للأسف لا يوجد بيانات كافية لدراسة العلاقات بين تلك المتغيرات وان كان لها أثر في ظاهرة الطلاق

من منظور آخر يمكن أن يكون الطلاق مؤشرا صحيا على استقلال المرأة وتحررها من القيود الاجتماعية التقليدية المتمثلة بالزوج أو الأب. فمن المرجح أن تعود نسبة من زيادة الطلاق لتطور أوضاع المرأة وتحررها النسبي مما يجعلها أكثر قدرة على مواجهة الظلم و/أو الاستغلال والمطالبة بالطلاق في حال الانتقاص من حقوقها أو حقوق أبناءها. ولكن هذه مجرد فرضيات لا يمكن اثباتها أو انكارها لعدم وجود بيانات وافية في هذا المجال

ومهما كانت أسباب الطلاق الا انه من النادر أن يحدث بشكل حضاري أو عقلاني. ففي معظم الأحيان يستخدم الزوجان أو أحدهما اجراءات الطلاق للانتقام من الآخر أو لرد الاعتبار وذلك بالتلاعب في قضايا المؤخر أو الحضانة أو النفقة وغيرها من اجراءات الطلاق

الأهم والأخطر في قضية الطلاق هم الأبناء. فسواء كان الطلاق مبررا أم لا فالابناء ضحايا أبرياء في هذه العملية لابد من حمايتهم خلال وبعد مباحثات ومفاوضات الطلاق. فمن الضروري ألا يتحول الأبناء لوسيلة ضغط أو ورقة مفاوضات. كما يفضل ابعادهم عن تفاصيل المفاوضات والضغوطات الاجتماعية والقانونية خلال فترة الانفصال

الأبناء هم الأبطأ في التأقلم مع فترة ما بعد الطلاق. فقد يجد كلا الوالدين حياة جديدة وقد يسامحا بعضهما ولكن يبقى الأبناء – بغض النظر عن أعمارهم – متعلقين بأمل عودة الوالدين لبعضهما وعودة المياه لمجاريها. لذا يتوجب على الواليدن التعامل مع ذلك بحساسية ووعي شديدين. وهو أمر يتطلب تدريب وقراءة واستشارات نفسية نادرا ما يتوفر أي منها في الكويت أو العالم العربي

لذا فمن الضروري عند دراسة ظاهرة الطلاق في الكويت ان يخرج البحث عن الاطار التقليدي وان تدخل متغيرات كثيرة في الاعتبار. الأهم هو توفير الأدوات اللازمة لكافة الأطراف المعنية للتعامل مع واقع الطلاق وبالأخص الأطفال – الأدوات الأهم هي ورش العمل والكتب والاخصائيين القادرين على بناء المهارات اللازمة لتخطي الطلاق وبناء حياة جديدة على أسس صحيحة وصحية

I truly wish that you are having a better Eid and New Year Eve than I am! I have a nasty flu that kept me in bed the past 2 days. My kids went out celebrating Eid with my family, came back, went to bed and I was in a complete coma through it all. I remember waking up, taking a peak at the TV, taking my medicines and falling to sleep all over again.

Now that I am relatively better, I am trying to recall some of the things I heard and saw while in and out of coma! I remember waking up around 6 am on the news of hanging Saddam on the Eid morning. I remember that thinking that the timing is off. And that his death was not as “satisfying” as I thought it would be.

Later that night I saw interviews on Al-Jazirah, CNN and Arabia across the Arab world mourning the death of a distinguished “Arabic Leader”!! Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Yemen .. even Iraqis !! I went to coma again hoping not to wake up again to a world where someone like Saddam Hussein is mourned and considered a great leader!

My next conscious moments were when a new CNN Presents show began. It was around the Da Vinci Code theory of the changes made on the Christianity beliefs across the centuries and the role of the Roman Empire is shaping the religion into its current shape and away from its originally intended message. I went to sleep again thinking, how can people still believe despite all this clear undisputed evidence that their faith had been tampered?!

Today I am a bit better. So I could stay up for longer periods and follow the complete stories in the news. One of the interesting documents I saw today was a repetition of a 20/20 episode titled “Where is Heaven?” Barbara Walters meets people of different backgrounds and belief systems and discusses the origin and meaning of heaven across cultures, philosophies and religions. She interviews a scientist who discovered a “God Gene” that basically proves that some people are genetically more inclined to “believe” than others.

Finally there was a Panorama show on the nuclear black market! The program illustrates in minute details the way Pakistan, Iran and Iraq obtained their nuclear powers with the blessings of the American and British intelligence. A large network of well trained Eastern and Europeans selling technology, hardware and Uranium to the area regimes in delicate coordination with the US and the UK. The trading was stopped only when the same network began doing business with Libya!

I am sick, tiered and drugged, so my little brain can not really comprehend how can some people SEE Saddam’s atrocities and still be blind to it. I don’t understand how can people TALK about the alterations in History and still believe in absolute truths? How come there are those who HEAR all about the nuclear black market in Germany, Dubai and Pakistan and still think that this can play to our benefit?

The truth is that we see, hear and comprehend what we want to see, hear and comprehend. Our perception is selective and highly biased by our beliefs and values. Hmmmm the “God Gene” ?! Can this be genetic ?!

I am really sorry I had to hide for so long. I missed you all so much. But I had million things to attend and blogging is kind of addictive.

The good news is that I am almost done with my school work. The bad news is that I got a B in one of the silliest subjects. That spoiled my otherwise perfect GPA :(

The kids are fine. They claim that they did well in their exams. But we’ll know after their winter break ;)

Now that 2007 is so close, I am revisiting my 2006 resolutions and assess my success. One thing I’m proud of is getting my Masters (almost). I lost 4 kgs of the 15 I planned to lose. And I am doing better in community service – I think. I failed to maintain regular exercise. And I have definitely did not improve my financial status.

The one achievement I’m proud of the most is that I managed to control my work/life balance. By the end of 2005 I used to do an average of 16 hours work/day including weekends. That significantly affected my social life and my bond with my kids. I made a conscious decision to cut on work hours and dedicate more time to ME and MY KIDS. I think I did well in 2006 on my kids front.

When I’m happy I buy myself flowers. When I’m anxious I begin a new jigsaw puzzle. And when I’m depressed I get the chocolate box :)But when I’m confused about my feelings I get Bob’s Flower !

The “academic” name for my flower is Plutchik’s Emotions Model. I am sure most of you have come across it in school if you had any psychology classes. I have only began to appreciate its value recently.

The single petal of the flower represents a single dimension of increasing/decreasing intensity. For example: serenity, joy and ecstasy represent one dimension of escalating intensity. The opposite petal (grief, sadness and pensiveness) represent the opposite dimension. So in total there are 4 basic opposing emotional dimensions.

The core circle shows how close and yet superficially different are the basic emotions. For example, check how close terror to admiration and amazement!

Most interestingly to me is the complex emotions representation in this model. Complex emotions are shown in the space between the flower petals. Each complex emotion is a result of the basic emotions on both sides. For example, love is a combination of feeling acceptance and serenity.

When you close down the flower you see the relations between the different intensity levels of the basic emotions. You can see how sadness, disgust and surprise are very close in their cores.

What I love most about this model is that it gives you the vocabulary to name you feelings most of the times, especially when your feelings are complex.

The other thing I like about it is that it helps a lot explaining what we perceive as “weird” relationships. For example: it makes sense why some people “admire” someone like Saddam Hussein when you see how easily people can confuse terror with admiration. Or why some express their rage as loathing or hate.

On of the things I still get confused with is whether I feel fear or lack of trust. Why am I uncomfortable with X person? Does she scare me? Or is it a trust issue? Or is the fear caused by the mistrust? It was a relief to me to know that the two are not very much different in their mechanism.

What I find challenging is finding the right Arabic word for each feeling that can easily distinguish the difference in dimension and in density. It is established that some cultures do not really have words for some of the feelings in this model.

My Question: Do you agree with the model? How can it benefit you? Have you ever suffered the confusion between to adjacent dimensions?

ما الذي يجعل دولة موطنا؟ الجنسية؟ الآلاف من البدون في الكويت يشهدون بعكس ذلك. مسقط الرأس؟ يمكننا سؤال الملايين من المهجرين والمغتربين من الجيل الثاني والثالث من العرب في البلاد والغربية وسيختلفون معنا. العلاقات والذكريات؟ هل يعني ذلك ان ابناء الدبلوماسيين لا أوطان لهم؟ هل معنى ذلك ان كل دولة لي فيها ذكريات جميلة يمكن أن تكون موطنا لي؟ هل الوطن هو حيث الأهل والعائلة وأصدقاء الطفولة؟ هل يعني ذلك انني لو جمعت أهلي وأصحابي وهاجرت لدولة أخرى ستكون هذه الدولة موطنا جديدا لي؟ هل هو جمال البلاد؟ طبيعتها؟ شهرتها؟ رخاؤها؟ خدماتها؟ حقوقي وواجباتي فيها؟ هل موطني هو الدولة التي تمنحني الاحترام والحرية والعدالة؟ كيف يمكن للعراقيين اذن ان يسموا العراق موطنا؟ ما الذي يجعل فلسطين موطن بعض الفلسطينيين واسرائيل موطن بعضهم الآخر؟ هل هما فعلا موطنان مختلفان؟! ما هو في الوطن الذي يجعلنا نتغنى: بلدي وان جارت علي عزيزة؟

عندما كنت صغيرة كان ينتابني ذعر شديد من السفر خارج موطني وترك بيتي وأهلي وأصدقائي حتى لو كان سفرا قصيرا وممتعا. كنت أعود بشوق ولهفة لكل شيئ .. بما في ذلك الغبار والرطوبة والحر. الآن يصيبني الاكتئاب اللحظة التي تحط بها الطائرة مطار الكويت. أشكال المسافرين كافية لتذكيري بالعته والتخلف والغباء وقلة الذوق التي جعلتني اتغرب داخل وطني

I received this great story by e-mail, not sure who wrote it, and felt Compelled to share. Sorry for those of you who already read it.

An elderly Chinese woman had two large pots, each hung on the ends of a pole, which she carried across her neck. One of the pots had a crack in it while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water.

At the end of the long walk from the Stream to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half full.

For a full two years this went on daily, with the woman bringing home only one and a half pots of water. Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it could only do half of what it had been made to do.

After 2 years of what it perceived to be bitter failure, it spoke to the woman one day by the stream. "I am ashamed of myself, because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house." The old woman smiled, "Did you notice that there are flowers on your side of the path, but not on the other pot's side? "

"That's because I have always known about your flaw, so I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back, you water them."

"For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table. Without you we would have no beauty to grace the house."

We all have our own unique flaw. But it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding. You've just got to take each person for what they are and look for the good in them.

So, to all of my crackpot friends, have a great day and remember to smell the flowers on your side of the path.

Growing Pains

When my elder son and daughter approached their teens I got my daughter this book: Ready, Set, Grow!: A What's Happening to My Body? Book for Younger Girls , and this book for my son: What's Going on Down There: Answers to Questions Boys Find Hard to Ask . I truly thought this is the logical thing to do since they are growing up and I am positive they have many question and doubts about what is going on in their bodies. I did not want them to get their information from unreliable sources and I wanted an entry point to discuss these issues with them.

I’ve put a great effort into choosing the right books. I ordered many, but decided to give them just these two books. I looked for books with simple and basic information, simple language, cartoon and not so graphical illustrations and scientific rather than social approach to sex education. The latter condition was because many books are American based and address the issue from the angle of “have sex but make it safe”. I thought it was too early to get into this discussion and too complicated to draw the cultural distinctions.

I was amazed by the angry calls and discussions I got from the mothers of my kids’ friends. They thought it was “inappropriate” to introduce children to such information. Some feared that this will “mess up” their kids’ heads. Others thought it was too soon to “open their eyes” to such issues. Others cautioned me against raising my children with such “Western” and “free” environment.

Was I wrong? I really don’t think so. I believe that these books or something similar should have been part of their school curriculum. It should not be left to the parents’ initiative and/or preference. Children should have sources for scientific and practical information about their sexual development. They should be able to turn to their parents and teachers as the primary reference for such information. Otherwise their alternatives are the hearsay, media, their imagination and most dangerous, the “bad” boys and girls in school! How can that be healthy or safe to our kids?

One of the mothers told me “sex is a private matter, should not be open for public discussion”! But so is going to the bathroom (sorry). Yet, they taught us in school all about the intestines and the digestive system. The children, at an early age know hygiene requirements. They can easily tell if they have urinary infection, constipation or diarrhea (very sorry). Do they have the same solid information about their reproductive system?

Lack of sex education at an early stage is the root cause to many of the problems adults face. By the time a young men or women are ready for marriage their heads are filled with superstitions, baseless anecdotes, myths, and unrealistic expectations. This contributes to many medical, psychological and social problems like infertility, impotence, sexual and gender identity disorders, domestic violence, divorce, infidelity .. and many others.

A mother told me that they will learn about all that in the Islamic Studies class. I don’t know about the current Islamic Studies curriculum, but the one I took had nothing of substance. I remember reciting the words (الجماع ، الاحتلام ، الحيض) and getting full grades in the tests without knowing what they meant. One time I asked my teacher about what (حيض) period meant. And she laughed and said “you’ll know when it comes to you” !!! Can you imagine the horror? Waiting for it to come!

Another told me: “when they are old enough they will ask us or find answers in books or the internet”!!! When is “old enough”? Which child in his/her right mind will come and ask their parents? How do we guarantee that the books, or even worse the internet sites, they seek will have the right information? What about the damage done till then?

My Question: What do you think about sexual education as a solid part of formal school education? What age/ grade school most appropriate?

A Kuwaiti parks his brand new Porsche in front of the office to show it off to his colleagues. As he's getting out of the car, a truck comes speeding along too close to the kerb and takes off the door before speeding off.

More than a little distraught, the Kuwaiti grabs his mobile dials 777 and calls the police. Five minutes later, the police arrive. Before the policeman has a
chance to ask any questions, the Kuwaiti as usual starts screaming hysterically:

"My Porsche, my beautiful black Porsche is ruined. No matter how
long it takes at the panel beaters, it'll simply never be the same again!"

After the Kuwaiti finally finishes his rant, the policeman shakes his head in disgust: "I can't believe how materialistic you bloody Kuwaiti's are. You lot are so focused on your possessions that you don't notice anything else in your life."

"How can you say such a thing at a time like this? ", snaps the Kuwaiti.

The policeman replies, "Didn't you realise that your right arm was torn off when the truck hit you ?!!".

The Kuwaiti looks down in absolute horror "F***ING HELL!" he screams ................... "Where's my Rolex ???? "

What’s Love Got to Do with It?

I apologize in advance for anyone seeking answers in this post. I have more questions than answers here because this is an area where I realize how little I know about with each day I grow.

What is love? When do you know you are in love? Are there different kinds of love? Different degrees? Domains?

Some researchers see love as a civilized cover up to our mate selection instinctive routine. We “love” those who will help us create and maintain healthy and strong offspring. So we subconsciously seek a spouse who will provide good genes to our children and/or will provide to keep them healthy. This crosses my mind whenever I hear someone saying: “I love him! He’s from such a good family and has a great future”. Or when someone says: “She’s the love of my life! She is the best mother I could choose for my future kids”.

But what about the cases when we fall in love with the wrong person; genetically, socially, and all other measures! Can it be a malfunction in our instincts? Or is it forces other than survival and propagation? What about lust? How do we distinguish love from lust? What percentage of love is sexual attraction? Can you love someone that you are not attracted to physically? Doesn’t that explain why most hot and steamy love stories die after 6 months of marriage? Why some guys suddenly fall out of love once they get their way with the girlfriend?

Most challenging to me is that question of whether there are different kinds of love? How your love to your spouse is different than your love to your parents? Your children? You friends? And here I don’t mean the deference in expressing your love. Because for sure (or at least I hope) we express our romantic love differently than our parental love. My question is: as an emotion, how is it different on the hormones and neurotransmitters levels? Is it?

Let’s say you have two good friends of the opposite sex and you claim that you love one of them as a friend and the other romantically. What does that really mean? How is the feeling different? Is it the sexual component? Or something else? Or is it just the degree of love? You love one of them more than the other? If so, what about the third one that comes along and you love her/him even more?

Put differently, if someone asks you: who do you love more your mother or your spouse? Would you love one more than the other, both just the same or will it be comparing apples to oranges? If the latter, how?

Finally, how do we fall out of love? Do we stop loving? Stop caring? Hate? Lose interest? What does the cliché “I love you but not in love with you“ mean?

Know Your Patterns

Patterns are nature’s way of preserving itself. It is a survival mechanism. As humans and as a natural organism, we have the same tendency. Patterns of behaviors are efficient and effective mechanism to deal with the vast variety of stimuli and changes in our environments.

Some patterns become so fundamental that they become part of our blue prints and genetic make up. They are what we call reflexes. We see a snake and we automatically identify danger and act (fight, flee or freeze).

Some other patterns are less automatic and are developed personally and based on our life experiences, upbringing and culture.

To most Muslims, for example, the sight of ham is repulsive and will initiate some form of negative action. Yet for other cultures this might be an enjoyable or neutral trigger.

Not all patterns are positive and they do not remain functional forever. To maintain efficient behavior and to evolve we need to keep examining our patterns.

Dysfunctional patterns need to be changed or eliminated.

Human patterns come in different combinations of Feel, Think and Act – not necessarily in order. I feel threatened, I think I should retaliate then I hit. Or I might think I should save my fragile self and I simply accept what is being forced on my. The choice of action may vary according to the situation or the environment, but if I have a strong pattern it will prevail most of the time.

Sometimes one of the Feel, Think, Act elements is absent or unconscious or reflexive. I meet a person of a certain race and I feel scared. I see an Arab and think “terrorist” ;) I feel depressed and I eat chocolate. I exercise and I feel good .. etc. This is typically how compulsive behavior, stereotypes and biases develop.

Not all stereotypes are negative. I meet Egyptian and I think “funny”, a Bahraini and think “kind”, and Italian and think “mafia” :) and many other typical or personal stereotypes.

A healthy regular exercise is identifying your patterns and assessing their functionality. As a personal example, as a mother, whenever I think my child needs me, I feel responsible and I step in, take over and do things for them. When reviewing this pattern I realized this is not an efficeint pattern. I am creating dependent kids and limited creativity. So now, every time I think they need help, I have to remind myself to step a way and let them handle the situation on their own. I wait for them to ask for help and even then I resist taking over and only give hints and guidance.

My Question: What is a pattern you have and wish to change?

بعد متابعة بسيطة لمحتوى بعض المدونات والمواضيع المطروحة لاحظت انخفاض واضح في مشاركة الآنسات والسيدات في المواضيع السياسية. وفي كثير من المناسبات رأيت ان المدونات أو الزائرات المستمرات لبعض المواقع يشاركن بحماس في المواضيع الاجتماعية والأدبية والفكاهية ويختفين عندما تطرح مواضيع سياسية وبالأخص السياسية العالمية أو غير المحلية

لا يمكنني أن أتأكد من دقة هذه الملاحظة ولا من الأسباب وراء ذلك - ان كانت تلك ظاهرة فعلية. لذا فانني أطرح هذا الموضوع للنقاش لأتعرف على آرائكم وتحليلاتكم. ولكن بافتراض ان الملاحظة صحيحة فان اسباب عزوف الشباب بشكل عام والنساء بشكل خاص عن النقاش السياسي قد تعود لأحد هذين السببين أو كلاهما- الأول: عدم الاكتراث أو الاهتمام بما يحدث في السياسة المحلية أو خارج أسوار الكويت ، الثاني: الشعور بنقص الخبر في هذه المجالات وبالتالي الاكتفاء بالقراءة دون محاولة الدخول في النقاش

قد يكون العمل السياسي المنظم والعلني جديد على الساحة الكويتية بشكل عام وقد تكون مشاركة المرأة ما زالت مقتصرة على "العلاقات العامة" وجذب أصوات النساء. ولكن الوضع سيتغير جذريا مع الانتخابات البرلمانية القادمة. فالقوى والتنظيمات السياسية ستعمل على تعديل برامجها السياسية لتخدم قضايا المرأة كل حسب رؤيته. ولنجاح هذه البرامج لابد أن يكون للمرأة دور في اتخاذ القرار داخل هذه التنظيمات والقوى السياسية. كيف سيمكن للمرأة اتخاذ قرارت بهذه الأهمية دون الخبرة والمعرفة المطلوبة؟

ثم ياتي الدور الأكبر والمطلوب من الكل، وهو انتخاب من يمثل طموحاتنا وآمالنا لوطننا ومستقبل ابناءنا ليمثلنا في مجلس الأمة. ولننتخب الممثل المناسب يجب أن نملك المهارات اللازمة للقياس والاختبار واتخاذ القرار. فالكلام دوما جميل ولكن المهم هو قدرة المرشحين والمرشحات على تطبيق برامجهم والصمود أمام المغريات والضغوط. فكيف يمكننا قياس ذلك دون قراءة فاحصة لبرامج المرشحين وسيرهم الذاتية؟ كيف سنتمكن من مناقشة ومواجهة المرشحين والمرشحات وأنصارهم بالحجة والمنطق اذا لم نملك الأدوات المناسبة؟

ويحصر الكثيرون من الشباب والشابات اهتماماتهم السياسية في الساحة المحلية ، وهذا خطر أيضا في رأيي لأنه يشكل رؤية قاصرة حتى للقضايا الداخلية. فكيف يمكن نقاش الاقتصاد الكويتي دون الدخول فيما يحدث في الاقتصاد العالمي والاتفاقيات الدولية التي تدخل فيها الكويت أو تؤثر فيها؟ كيف ندرس قوة أو ضعف القوى السياسية دون دراسة امتداداتها التاريخية والجغرافية في العالم العربي؟ كيف نضمن أمننا واستقرارنا بمعزل عن أمن واستقرار دول الجوار؟ النظر بزاوية ضيقة لواقع السياسية المحلية سيعطي حلولا ناقصة وقصيرة الأمد وبرامج هشة ستسقط عند أول اختبار قومي أو عالمي

أما عدم الاكتراث فهو أخطر وخصوصا في صفوف الشباب. فكل قضايا الشباب بلا استثناء لها جذور أو أوجه سياسية: الرياضة ، الفن ، الأدب ، حرية الرأي والتعبير ، التعليم ، الصحة ، البطالة ، المخدرات .. الخ. فكيف يمكن نقاش أو الاستمرار في نقاش أي من هذه المواضيع دون الاهتمام بالسياسة؟ مثال بسيط وواضح: ماذا لو قررت الدولة وضع شروط أو رقابة مسبقة على المدونات؟ حتى تلك التي تقتصر على المواضيع الأدبية والفكاهية (من منطلق المساواة في الظلم عدالة) كيف سيتم فهم هذا القرار؟ كيف سيتم التعامل معه؟ من سيساند من؟ ما هي أدوات ومنافذ الضغط والتغيير؟ كل تلك قضايا سياسية بحته لا يمكن الدخول فيها دون فهم واضح للعديد من الأمور السياسية الأخرى
قد تكون السياسة معقدة وغير واضحة وهذا مزعج حتى للعاملين فيها. ولكن ليس من المطلوب ان نكون خبراء سياسيين وانما ان نهتم ونقرأ ونسأل. ما الذي يمنع أن أقول "عفوا شباب .. الموضوع شكله حلو بس ما عندي أي خلفية عنه. ممكن أحد يشرح لي من الأول شنو صار؟ والا شنو المشكلة؟" .. سؤال بسيط ولكن قد يفتح ابواب كثيرة قد تكون غائبة عنا

سؤالي: ما الذي يجذبك؟ وما الذي يكرهك بالسياسية؟ و كيف تؤثر الأحداث السياسية المحلية والاقليمية العالمية على حياتك اليومية؟

You know you’re old when you begin recognizing the names in the obituaries and when your friends become grandparents!

People deal with aging differently. Some are in complete denial; refusing to acknowledge their limitations (physical or mental) and pushing their bodies beyond their capacity. Others are in a continuous struggle with aging. They spend most of their time trying to hide their wrinkles and gray hair. Very few embrace their natural growth and enjoy all its colors.

For as long as I can remember I always wanted to be older than my true age. I was never happy with who I was at any stage of my life. Age was always associated with maturity in my mind. And I never felt I’m mature enough. I only found peace with myself when I reached 40. I think this was when I really began enjoying life instead of fighting it; celebrating who I am instead of struggling with shortcomings.

This is not to say that I matured :p But I realized that maturing is a process and not a destination. And it definitely has nothing to do with age!

When I reached 40 I realized that I lost valuable time complaining and fussing about all what is wrong in the world. Now that my time is much shorter, I spend more time looking for successes, celebrating achievements and seeking bright spots. I think some may consider me silly or not as “serious” as people my age should be .. but I really don’t care what they think. Life is too short :)

That is not to say that I am careless or selfish. But I learned to give everything in life its share of attention and energy. I also learned to set priorities in my life and to keep these priorities in check. Last but not least, I came to peace with the fact that I will never have the answer for anything!

While reading Kila Ma6goog’s blog the other day, I was thinking how wonderful it is to see young Kuwaiti men and women engage in civilized and sophisticated discussions. I hate going to the malls and the beaches because of the types of young Kuwaitis I see there; superficial, shallow and aimless. It also seems that the only time a girl and a boy get together is in a cheesy date or an undercover flirting.

I am sure the blogger society is not a representative sample of the Kuwaiti youth. But I think that even some bloggers may not be as open or as deep in other settings (e.g. Diwaniay or dates) --- Please note I’m not generalizing ;)

I think one of the reasons of better communication and mutual respect within bloggers is that participants have enough anonymity that they can put down their masks and show their real selves. When we genuinely present ourselves, is when we're most effective in our communication.

A mask or “persona” is the front we present to others. It’s what we want people to see. Our choice of masks is a product of our personality, self-esteem and self-confidence but mostly of external factors like culture, norms and sometimes regulations.

We all wear masks. They are important to protect out egos and might help us survive in some settings or environments. A typical example is the difference between our personalities in the workplace and in our homes; with our parents and with our best friends, in familiar settings and in new or strange settings. For example, I tend to wear the mask of the Super Mom who can handle anything and never afraid of anything even when I'm terrified deep inside. I wear a happy and cheerful mask when I’m in social settings even though I prefer being at home with me kids, pets and books .. etc.

The problem is when we wear a mask for so long that we forget who we are. Or when our masks backfire and distort our images and our relationships. Sometimes people wear so many masks that they lose identity and credibility.

We are at peace when we can be ourselves and do not need to use masks to be accepted or loved. That is why we take off our masks in “safe” settings; such as in the company of our friends, spouses ..etc or in a setting that guarantees our anonymity or privacy.

The worst are the masks that are forced on us! When we pretend to be something we are not because this is what others demand. When guys gather in a Diwaniya and the general mood is to be silly and shallow, then even intelligent guys will go along to fit in. When being a “woman” means being flirty, sexy and stupid then this is what any girl needs to do to get attention and “catch” a man.

To be healthy (mentally, psychologically and physically) one needs to find peace with who he/she are. Unfortunately only few of us get to find this safe spot where we can take of our masks and still be loved and cherished.

لمن عاصر الأزمة يعتبر الثاني من اغسطس منعطفا جذريا في الأعراف والقواعد الاجتماعية والسياسية في الكويت. ففي أثناء الغزو وفي وقت قياسي تهدمت الحواجز واختفت الفروقات التقليدية بين الجنسين وأبناء الطوائف والقبائل والطبقات الاجتماعية – الاقتصادية المختلفة. ونجحت تجربة الوحدة الوطنية داخل وخارج الكويت أثناء شهور الأزمة في كسر الصور النمطية وفتح أبواب أكبر للتفاهم والاحترام والتقدير بين مجموعات طالما اعتبرت علاقاتها أقرب للعداوة من التعاون أو حتى الاحترام. وشهدت فترة ما بعد التحرير الكثير من المظاهر الاجتماعية الايجابية كتقدير دور المرأة والزواج عبر الجماعات المنغلقة والتحالفات لاسياسية غير التقليدية.

ولاحظنا في سوق العمل انخفاض حاد في درجة التمييز والعنصرية ضد الأقلية التقليدية مثل النساء والشيعة. كما اختفت بشكل نهائي دعاوى التخوين والتشكيك في وطنية وانتماءات بعض الأعراق والطوائف المتعددة.

ومع الوقت بدأت الايجابيات تهفت وظهرت بشكل أكبر سلبيات الأزمة مثل الادمان على المخدرات والكحول، الاكتئاب، الانتحار ، السلبية والاتكالية وغيرها من الأعراض التقليدية لاضطرابات ما بعد الأزمة . ولكن – بشكل عام- لم تعد الطائفية والعنصرية والعرقية لحدتها ما قبل الغزو. ولي شخصيا – كانت تكل هي الايجابية الرئيسية لهذه التجربة المريرة.

المخيف جدا انه أثناء العدوان الاسرائيلي الأخير على لبنان بدأنا نقرأ ونسمع نبرة عنصرية اندثرت (أو آملت ان تكون اندثرت) منذ الغزو. وعدنا نسمع نفس تلك الأصوات النشاز التي تشكك بوطنية كل من اختار موقفا مختلفا. واستعدنا استخدام المبررات البدائية (مثل الطائقة أو العرق أو الجنس) لتبرير الاختلافات والخلافات بيننا.

ورغم ان أحداث لبنان مرت بخير ، الا انها دليل دامغ على هشاشة "وحدتنا الوطنية" – ان وجدت. كما انها دليل عميق على ضعف وعي وثقافة البعض الذي يدعي البراعة السياسية والانفتاح الفكري.

والخطر الأكبر – في رأيي – أن نرى مثل تلك الظواهر في صفوف الشباب حماة المستقبل وخصوصا ضمن الشباب البرتقالي مستقبل العمل السياسي الوطني في الكويت. فسر نجاح حركة البرتقالي هو نجاحها في استقطاب وتمثيل كافة شرائح المجتمع واذا سمحنا لسوسة العنصرية ان تنخر في جسد هذه الحركة فستتآكل وستسقط عند أقرب تحد.

العنصرية والتعصب شعوران مغريان. اذ يغذيان شعور زائف بالانتماء والتميز والفخر. كما انهما يعطيان راحة جميلة للعقل. فعوضا عن التفكير في سبب ودوافع تصرفات الآخرين أو أفكارهم فان التعصب والعنصرية يعطيان أجوبة سهلة وسريعة .. ولكن مخاطر هذا المنحنى من التفكير أكبر بكثير من الاغراءات والمزايا الآنية.

سؤالي

كيف يمكنك أن تحمي نفسك من التعصب الأعمى لجماعتك (أي كانت هذه الجماعة: جنس ، دين ، طائفة ، لون ، عرق، قبيلة .. الخ؟ كيف يمكن أن ترفع من قدرتك على تقبل وتقدير الآخر؟
