Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I am really sorry I had to hide for so long. I missed you all so much. But I had million things to attend and blogging is kind of addictive.

The good news is that I am almost done with my school work. The bad news is that I got a B in one of the silliest subjects. That spoiled my otherwise perfect GPA :(

The kids are fine. They claim that they did well in their exams. But we’ll know after their winter break ;)

Now that 2007 is so close, I am revisiting my 2006 resolutions and assess my success. One thing I’m proud of is getting my Masters (almost). I lost 4 kgs of the 15 I planned to lose. And I am doing better in community service – I think. I failed to maintain regular exercise. And I have definitely did not improve my financial status.

The one achievement I’m proud of the most is that I managed to control my work/life balance. By the end of 2005 I used to do an average of 16 hours work/day including weekends. That significantly affected my social life and my bond with my kids. I made a conscious decision to cut on work hours and dedicate more time to ME and MY KIDS. I think I did well in 2006 on my kids front.

What about you? What were your 2006 resolutions and what happened to them?

Why do you think we typically fail to follow on most of our resolutions?

Love you all and wish you the best of 2007 and the next millennium.

good luck and well done with the masters, inshallah you break us the good news very soon with your graduation.
o allah ykhaleelich "il wir3aan" o ya7feth'hom.

resolutions typically fail le'ana "kol ma boneya 3ala baa6il fa howa baa6il" .. that, or for the fact that they're for 600 or so years in the future if ur catching somebody's drift.

seriously though, a resolution is just a blown up version of the whole "i'll start my diet on Saturday" .. more of a wish than a promise if u ask me.
i for one think ppl change only when theyre triggered to change, life certainly wouldnt be as profound as most claim it to be if that trigger were a calendar, now would it

I don’t like making resolution I can’t keep, I believe in doing it right away when I see fit. Glad you have accomplished so much and hope you have very pleasant holidays.
Wait a minute; did you say you are planning to lose 15 K? shino tabeen tikhtifeen?

Heeeeeeeeey welcome back :-)

I vote with Ayya, I never believed in resolutions. I've always thought why wait for a whole year to evaluate and take decisions?

As an assessment, I think I've done very well in 2006 simply because... I'm happier than ever :-)

A. Temi .. Great to "see" you dear :) It's been a while!

Starting your diet next Saturday is a typical pattern we create to maintain our illusion of control :)

AyyA .. Hiiiii! How are you?! We need to "talk" about your future plans soon :)

The problem with Humans and with any systems is that we only notice what is wrong when it's big and clear. But most serious problems creep slowly that they go unoticed till they are too big.(and I'm not talking about my weight here ;))

It is always healthy to have a "performance review" regulary to realize areas of development or problems as early as possible. This makes the "fix" much easier and faster.

Arfanaaaaaaa .. Hi Hon! Great to be back ;)
It's not a matter of "waiting for a year" to make decisions. Its just a good time to stop and assess. With all the stresses of life it is rarely that we have time to actually reflect. So allocating the time for it is great. You can do that in the Isra's w mi3raj Holiday if you want ;)

It is like going to the Dr. We typically go when we're really sick. But ever since I reached 40 I began a "maintenance" checkup on my Birthdays. Because I know that otherwise I will never go :)

Ghashima El7akima .. SalaaaaM :) How are you? How can I go and leave my kids .. what kind of mom would I be ?!

It is more encouraging to have baby steps towards big goals. But when you're so full of yourself like me, you think you can do everything in no time :) So reality checks are great to keep my head on ground :))

BTW, love you new posts. Sorry I did not participate as much as I wanted :)
