The Inconvenient Truth

Did you like these nature snapshots? Do you know that within your age span this is all what will be left of nature .. snapshots!

This was my first weekend without school work and tight deadlines. So I began working on many projects that have been shelved for a while. One of them was watching Al Gore Documentary on Global Warming.

I watched the whole documentary with my kids thinking “I know it all” but good educational DVD for my kids. But I was wrong!! I was shocked of how little I knew on the threat and impact of Global Warming.

The documentary is a wake up call reinforced with hard facts and undisputable evidence. It is easy to follow and great for kids and adults the same. Yet, don’t watch it if you are not willing to take action!

The documentary basically connects the dots. Why are we having strange diseases lately like SARS and Avian Flu? Why are old and basically extinct ones like Cholera and Smallpox are coming back aggressively?

Most importantly, what is the reason behind the changes in the climate patterns, the increase of intensity and frequency of floods and tornadoes and the melting North and South Poles? Why certain insects and parasites like mosquitoes, lice and fleas are are increasing? Why are my favorite animals the Polar Bears are drowning in the North Pole?

The answer to that all is Global Warming and our conscious and unconscious contribution to it. Most scary is that the threat is no longer to the “future generations” .. the treat is to us now and here. Earth as we know it, will vanish in less than 50 years!

The good news is that this is reversible and we can do something about it. Watch the documentary and TAKE ACTION !!

this is scary ...
i think its up to the governments to educate the people and provide us with the means..
we dont even have a recycling center in Q8

First of all, LOVED the pix. Good way of scaring us to make your point :|

I've been meaning to watch this Oscar winning documentary for some time now but never got around to it. So, thanks to you, I've just placed an order on amazon.co.uk lol (lazem takhtheen menhom commission hehe)

There's one opinion which suggests that we are NOT the ones causing global warming! It's rather the way nature works. Shall look into it more and let you know :)

Thanxx again for such a brilliant post :)

Its very scary :(

Thank you for bring up such an important fact....I think some action and awareness needs to take place in the middleast

There has always been talks and action against global warming here in Canada..since it will take Canada out of the map if it increases!!

When I was in highschool, we had lots of seminars and workshops to increase awareness and therefore prevent more damange!

I remember the one fact that all the guest speakers highlighted is the United States Of America!!
The damage the US is causing is far more than any other country is doing! Both on domestic levels (garbage disposal) and on government levels (nuclear waste disposal!! Of course all the other nuclear countries are responsible as well.

Environment friendly household appliances, mandetory annual mission test (for cars etc), strict regulations on nuclear plants, alternative energy sources and other actions are what the Canadian government was very active in....note I said WAS...cuz now the new prime minister Stephen Harper is an ally of Bush and he cancelled many of the budgets to increase fund for more military expenses, based on an American advice so again the US goes to cause more damage than good!!

BTW...somthing not related...the relationship between Canadians and Americans always reminds me of that between Iraqis and Kuwaitis LOL....dayman ytnageron =D

Dear Eshda3wa,

It is VERY scary. Unfortunetly most goverments are either ignorants or cause of the problem :(
Recycling is great on many fronts. There are a couple of recycling factories in Kuwait but are run with the same Kuwaiti mentality :(

Witttttty,

Glad you liked the pix ;)
If it was up to me I would have given every person a copy for free and for all the selfish reasons! I want to live to see my gradchildren :(

The beauty of the DVD is that it addresses all theories against GM, including the notion that its "natural" .. But its not. At least not with the scary rate at which its happening.

Let me know what you think after you watch the documentary.

7akeeeeeeeMa :)

You are right. 30% of the carbon emmission is caused by the US. China has better regulations on cars and industries than the US !!
Next in line in Carbon emmission is Europe :(

As for us and them, I wish one of us was Canada :( At least we'll have a civilized conflict ;)

Ok. Thats on my to-do list for 2mrw.
Global warming always scared me since we learnt about it at school.

i saw it a few months back.. thought it was interesting to say the least, especially when he brought up the charts for comparisson.
he's a very good speaker too, so i think that helps sell a few of the points (t)he(y) wants to make

wa en yakon, i'll dig up another documentary that this time opposes the trend in relating CO2 with global warming.. from what i remember, they dont deny the global warming part of the argument, but focus on how it's turned into a political issue more so than anything else

Temetwir said...

ok that wasnt very hard.. sorry for taking extra space

here is the video i was talking about

it's almost 76mins long, but you tree-huggers wouldnt mind, would you?

just messin about :)

Anonymous said...

you know all this mess cuz by global warming...wallah I thought the average temperature went up by god knows how many degrees

Its only HALF a degree

just HALF and its expected to go up at least 2 degrees

hal mara way7aaa galbii min sij :|

DR love,

Great to see you :)
Yes, it is scary! Watch it and let me know what you think.

A. Temi elmowaghar ;)

In this desert we don't even have trees to hug .. more like 3rfaj huggers ;)

As with any issue, it is and will be used for political score keeping. But this does not change the fact that it IS an issue that WILL affect all of us.

7akeeeeeeeema dear,

Salamt galbich :)

0.5 degrees in average is a LOT in min and max. But, yes it is scary when you think of what 2 degrees can and will do!

mumsy,
dont want to ruin the vid i posted for anyone, but lets not halt discussion just on that premise..

one of the points they make in this other documentary is that climate is driven by the sun.
they want to prove that it always has been, and always will .. and thus, the whole 'the world is warming up because of us humans' - which is what the documentary u posted abt is trying to say in relation to CO2 production - is refuted.
since that is the case, any "limitation" to the CO2 going into the atmosphere isnt going to help cure anything simply because it never hindered anything in the first place.
(this is all shown in this other documentary; they interview a lot of "interesting" scientists in terms of their backgrounds)

what you write about "we can do something" is therefore not true according to them .. unless there is some way we can stop the sun from doing what its doing (and has been doing for thousands of yrs)

yes, it is affecting us all of course.. but it isnt a consequence of our actions ("not anyones fault" y3ni, its the sun). meaning that any reactions or any reconsidering of further actions on our part will not limit the effect the changing climate has on us.

its all in the vid

A. Temi dear,

I didn't want to reply before watching the documentary. But I'm sorry to report that the facts and theories presented are not new and they are mixed in a smart way to confuse things :(

Earth heats up for different reasons: (1) is the natural process of eath "breathing", (2)the sun and (3) man-made Global warming.

The sun as a star is in its dying phase. Hence its expanding and heating up till it explodes and becomes a black hole.

This makes earth hotter as the radiation coming is more. BUT this is an extremly slow and gradual process. The sun is expected to die in millions of years and not in 40 or 50.

The Al Gore documentary clearly shows with numbers the difference between what is natural and what is not.

The CO2 Glass-house effect is not a theory. It is a physical fact that can be illustrated in a mid-school lab.

The sun's phasing out is beyond our control, but the man-made warming is speeding up the distruction of our earth and we ARE responsible for it.

So its a pointless if we sit here and argue who is mainly responsible....we definitely are..but how bad are we contributing depends on our attitude towards the issue itself

alzebdah A.Temi

It IS happening...so what difference does it make....whether its the sun or twenith century technology...both roads lead to Rome...I guess :/

UmmEl3yal said...

7akeema love,

Ture :) The problem is that if we think the cause is "natural" , then we have an eccuse not to do anything about it :(

This is the strategy used by those who are causing the global warming; promoting the idea that this is all natural and we can not do anything about it!

mom,
read this article, please

i have no idea why he's solely quoting and depending on the professor he refers to, although it would have a certain effect given his conclusion and the overall point of the article in regards the comparisson between "e7na wain wohma wain", whoever 'ohma' may be

but anyway, i think it is a good addition to this discussion

and i'm sorry, but after further research on my own time, i must say that i no longer subscribe to the global warming theory in relevance to the production of CO2..

oh noes, does that make me a republican? ;)

UmmEl3yal said...

LOL .. Temi :)

I saw the article this morning and I was sure I will hear from you :)

I will send you soon the research countering this argument. As I mentioned earlier, the son activity is not new and not arguable. But whether it is the sole or major cause of the phenomenon, this is simply not true ;)
